Chard forest in one of our newer greenhouses- coming to your share this week! |
WHAT’S HAPPENING ON THE FARM Hello Friends, The wait for farm-fresh veggies is over- we are so excited to be here at Week 1 of our 2023 CSA Season! We of course could not be here without your support- you all put the S in CSA, as we won’t ever forget that. We have had some pretty extreme highs and lows in the weather lately- a ferocious cold snap swept though the valley a few weeks ago, damaging unprotected crops (many of our berry-growing neighbors took a hard hit) while just last week we saw temps soar into the 90s. For the sake of our gardens, pastures and livestock, we are hoping for merciful weather this year! Please scroll through this email to find some details about pick up thisThursday at Church-in-the-Gardens, 50 Ascan Avenue in Forest Hills! Also, please find two yummy simple, summer recipes that will utilize some of your share items this week! Wishing you all a fantastic week, and happy eating! – Betsy and the HV Farm Team |

PICKING UP YOUR SHARE The site host is Marina Kubicek and she can be contacted at info@foresthillscsa.com CSA shares are pre-boxed. A volunteer will check your name off of the list, ensuring that you receive your share and any add-on items, fruit and/or eggs. If there are ever any mistakes, this person will make note to share with the farmers, so that can correct any issues the following week. FARM CONTACT If you ever need to get in touch with the farm directly, please email us! |
CARDBOARD BOXES Please remember to bring your own bags to get your vegetables! Follow directions from your site host regarding return of CSA boxes. We collect these back each week to reuse for the next pack-out. Our CSA driver appreciates your help loading them back onto the truck. Thank you, volunteers, for helping! No returns of egg cartons or fruit containers, please. We cannot reuse these on our farm. We can accept returns of the folded cardboard boxes that hold the fruit containers. These we are able to reuse! |

| This Week’s Recipes! We hope you have fun cooking up and using your first share! Scallion&Chard Pancakes with Miso-Dill Salad Pancakes: 1 bunch of Scallion- thinly sliced at a bias, use whites and greens 2-3 stalks of chard- leaves and stem, cut to the same approximate thickness as scallions 2 cups flour 2 eggs, beaten 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon soy sauce (optional) 1.5 cups water Oil for frying Combine all ingredients and whisk until combined. The batter should be thinner than breakfast pancakes, so add water if your batter is too thick. Let batter rest before frying Add oil to frying pan- you can go for a pan-sized pancake or make smaller ones. Flip when crispy! For best dipping sauce: use 1:1 soy sauce to vinegar (rice or white), and add a pinch of sugar to taste. For spice, add some chili crisp or pepper flakes! Miso-Dill Salad Dressing 1 bunch dill, finely chopped 1-2 Tbspn Miso- if using a light miso, add more. If using dark miso, use a little less 2 cloves garlic, grated Ginger- optional, but so yummy The juice of 1 lemon, or a splash of your favorite vinegar with a hint of sweetness Enough olive oil to emulsify Throw all your ingredients into a jar and shake! If it’s too thick, add more oil and lemon, a little at a time. If its too thin, add some more miso or optionally, a dash of your favorite mustard! Add a few handfuls of salad mix and peashoots to a large bowl. Slice up radishes and add on top and toss with dressing! |
