Celebrate the Season with the Summer Solstice

Welcome back all my fellow procurers of perfect produce! As you are nibbling your way through those strawberries and greens, don’t forget to mark your calendars for the mother of all summer celebrations, Summer Solstice, which can be enjoyed in many ways in our lovely city.

What is the summer solstice you ask? It is the longest day of the year, also known as Midsummer’s Day.

When? June 20th is the actual day, but the celebrating will continue through the weekend. (How can one celebrate the sun in only one day?)

Where? Just about anywhere the sun can reach!

Most importantly…how can we celebrate?

Solstice in Times Square: Athleta Mind Over Madness Yoga

If inner peace in the middle of the craziest place in the world is your thing, head into Time Square and celebrate the sun with some free outdoor yoga classes running from 7:30AM to 8:30PM.

Swedish Midsummer Celebration in Battery Park

Friday, June 22, 5-8 pm
Robert F. Wagner Park

There will be all things Swedish: food, music, flower wreath making, a midsummer pole decorating ceremony, and games.

Socrates Sculpture Park Summer Solstice Celebration

Wednesday, June 20, 2012

Rain or shine / FREE!

Art more your thing? No worries. Head to Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island City for free art workshops and even a traditional dance. There will also be free workout classes and seed planting.

Queens Botanical Gardens Celebrates the Solstice with Music for the Birds

Sunday, June 17, beginning at 11am
Fee: Free with admission

There will be an aviation expert offering talks about our feathered friends, story telling, and music by the Quintets of America.
