A note from Maggie and Matt:
Hi folks!
I’ll be putting more information in this week’s CSA newsletter, but I just wanted to give you a heads up that we’ll no longer have U-Pick strawberries at the farm. Our crop was severely affected by the cold winter, dry spring and lack of mulching. (No organic mulch was available last fall/winter and we didn’t want to mulch with non-organic straw.) The field is not in good shape for visitors and we just don’t have enough fruit to open the fields to U-Pick. We apologize for this late notice, but we were waiting to see the fruiting before making a final decision.
Instead of U-Pick, we will be offering discounted flats (8 quarts) to members over the next few weeks. I’m not sure if we will be able to deliver them to the sites, but we do know that pick-up will be available at the farm and at our farmers’ markets on Long Island. I will be in touch again later in the week with more information about this.
Tours will still be held at 1pm on Saturdays throughout June so we hope members will still come out to visit the farm.
We’re sorry to say “goodbye” to our U-Pick program, but on a positive note, it will allow us more time to focus on growing for the CSA!
Thank you!
Maggie & Matt
